Tax Overhaul:

Most of us are not rich enough to benefit from the tax cuts. If you are, please take me out on your yacht! But if anyone is interested in the impact of the legislation on physicians specifically, check out this post on White Coat Investor. It is comprehensive, includes unbiased political background, and is easy to read even with no finance background. News to me: 529 accounts can now be used for K-12 education. Boom!

Grease the Groove:

Here is a fairly technical weightlifting explanation. Here is a more simplified approach to understanding. The way I translate this concept is simply to perform very brief sessions of exercise sporadically throughout the day. No one has time to spend 2 hours at the gym every day. I do two or three workouts in a good week.
But while at home or even at work, I look for opportunities to do a set of air squats, a few push ups or pull ups, or a short walk. Throw this in your daily routine as a new years resolution. Take a squeegee breath and then GTG!

Memory:

Trying to memorize something? Do not just read it over and over. Even highlighting has poor efficacy, you’ll be fooled by the fluency illusion (reading over and over makes you feel very familiar with the material).
Spend 1/3 of your study time reading it, then 2/3 of your study time trying to recite itwithout consulting the notes. (Perfect ratio is 40:60 according to the data). Do the same thing a day later and a week later (spaced repetition).

Get pumped up:

Check out this little guy getting after it with the weights. Celebrate the small wins.

Be Observant:

Likely everyone saw this terrible story about a physician who committed suicide at the hospital.
The main focus of this newsletter is for all of us to thrive, to have a goal more ambitious than simply “not drowning.”
But you or someone you know will hit a low point, so let’s all look out for each other. There are resources out there.
