Intelligence:

Very cool post about the present and future utility of social / emotional intelligence. As computers are increasingly integrated into culture, so called cognitively intelligent, data computing people are at less of an advantage. In Sweden, those who tested higher in “non-cognitive skills” (“social maturity,” perseverance and emotional stability) had higher wages as the years progressed (into the current environment).

Energize:

Many of you may be familiar with Wim Hof, the Iceman. He is a master of mental toughness, invented novel breathing techniques, and can consciously control his autonomic nervous and immune systems (and teach others how). This is one of my favorite books about him.
Let’s keep it simple: try one thing. At the end of your shower, turn the water all the way to cold for 30 seconds. Watch what it does to your breathing — you will involuntarily gasp for air. Try to inhale once and exhale very slowly. This gets pretty hard in the winter. Definite subjective/anecdotal benefits, likely objective / measurableeffects as well. Check out this quite serious website with instructions.

Rest:

Try an experiment this week. Go to bed before 11pm every night. Do it for 7 straight days. See how you feel at the end of it. See how you feel on the 8th morning, and remember it.

Finance:

Have you ever wondered how Method Man would frame his financial advice? Wonder no more. Check out Wu-Tang Financial on Twitter (@Wu_Tang_Finance). Though a parody account, actually has a lot of good information. #DiversifyYoBonds.

Quote:

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

– Mother Theresa
