Stress:

• Interesting article from School of Life on finding something(s) to worry about daily as a proxy for unresolved past stresses. Freudian. Likely true in many cases, especially for our patients. Very brief read.

Debt:

• Think your student loan debt (or general debt) is bad, check out this orthodontist. He certainly took part in the accumulation, and he’s a grown adult. But what happened to him is happening all over the country, mostly to graduate students. Take a look at some of the graphs.

Living With a SEAL:

• Fun 1-2 day read about a pampered rich guy in Manhattan who hired a Navy SEAL to live with him and train him for a month. Paperback is $6 on Amazon. Other than being entertaining, the book had many suggestions for improvement.
• Simply being tougher, more resilient. Recognizing the needless complexity of our lives. How soft we are, burdened by first world problems of our own creation. The ability of the human body to adapt to countless (not really countless because they counted a lot, one example was 1000 push ups in a day) pushups, pullups, miles running, situps, etc. Several funny insults and quotes from the SEAL, who was initially anonymous but now identified. He raises money for veterans.
• Sadly, at the end the author admits to going back to his old exercise routine, which is always a risk when completing a big task. It is more about the process than the destination. Thanks Tej Dhindsa for the rec.

Superfoods:

• Apparently you can obtain nutrition from the Avocado seed. Nothing this fruit cannot do.

Surviving Sepsis:

• Nautilus article on the slow, difficult search for new antibiotics. Now were looking back at Medieval antibiotics. How about Bald’s Eyesalve: Garlic, wine, and ox gall. Mix them together and nothing happens, but incubate for 9 days and the mixture becomes self-sterilizing. Google medieval antibiotics to see the ongoing research.
